Optical Scan Absentee Ballot
OPTICAL SCAN ABSENTEE
BALLOT
Hillsborough County has replaced the punch card voting system with a state-of- the-art electronic voting system. Touch screen voting machines will be used in the precincts and an optical scan voting system will be used for absentee ballots.
Absentee voters record their votes on a paper ballot by drawing a line to complete two segments of an arrow located to the right of the candidate or issue of their choice. The completed ballot is returned to the Supervisor of Elections office and the votes are counted by processing each paper ballot through a high speed optical scan machine. The optical scan machine records votes by scanning arrows that have been completed with a line.
